Presented at Maranello on July 21st 1987 and marking the 40th anniversary of Enzo Ferrari’s auto-making activity, the aptly named F40 was developed to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the founding of the House of Maranello. Designed by Leonardo Fioravanti and Pietro Camardella of studio Pininfarina, under the guidance of Nicola Materazzi, the engineer who designed the engine, gearbox and other mechanical parts of the F40, this iconic Ferrari was designed for the true enthusiasts. Sculpted in an entirely new design by Pininfarina, it featured panels constructed of Kevlar, carbon fibre and aluminium for strength. Weight was further reduced using hardened plastic windows all round. Air conditioning was the only option available which would accompany the sparse interior which featured no HiFi, door handles, glove box, leather trim, carpets, or door panels.

Powered by a 2936cc twin IHI Turbo charged, DOHC 32 valve, V8, utilising a water-cooled heat exchanger, Weber-Marelli electronic injection and ignition allowing the power output to peak at 478hp at 7000rpm, a notable 162hp per litre! Rack-and-pinion steering, dual fuel tanks, totalling 120 litres, derived directly from those descended from aircraft tanks and approved for competitive use.

The example featured was built for the last year of production, featuring catalysts and upgraded adjustable suspension, created to reduce damage to the front end due to the unusually low ground clearance. First registered on the 4th September 1992, purchased by a Ferrari enthusiast and collector, the F40 remained in a climate controlled collection, being used sparingly throughout the summer season, accumulating just 9000Kms in 14 years. It was then sold to its next owner in 2006, where it has remained since and having traveled a mere 2500Kms since.

This last of the production year Ferrari F40 shows a little over 11,600 Kms from new and remains in excellent throughout. A fabulous investment as the ultimate Ferrari road going super car. Complete with books and tools. *(registration plate not included with sale)
