Delage was founded in 1905 by Louis Delage in Levallois-Perret near paris and the company grew to become one of Europe’s finest manufacturers of luxury and racing automobiles.

The company started racing in 1911 in the Coupe de I’Auto and moved into Grand Prix the following year as well as sports car racing in such events as the Le Mans 24hr.  They were very successful in the interwar period winning many Grand Prix and the World Championship in 1927.

Racing continued post war but was hampered by the sever rationing of materials which led to many specials.  One such example was the ERA Delage constructed by Rob Walker in 1950.  The car had a 1927 chassis fitted with a 1500cc, 6 cylinder, twin supercharged ERA engine mounted to an Armstrong Siddeley pre-selector gearbox.  This proved to be a very successful combination and raced with good results through the 1951/2 season including 3rd at Goodwood behind a 159 Alfa and a 4.5 litre Ferrari.

The fantastic car we have to offer is another Delage special inspired by the ERA Delage.  Based on a 1939 Delage DI 50, the car has been subject to a complete restoration / transformation to create this beautiful racing special.

The chassis has been modified to replicate the Delage ERA, being both lightened and stiffened.  The engine has light-weight (3-ring) pistons fitted, a specially machined high compression head, a racing camshaft, racing valves and springs, a dual inlet manifold, a lightened flywheel, a bronze clutch disc, a competition distributor, upgraded aluminium water pump and 44 mm race SU carburettors.  These are joined to a race prepared close ratio gearbox and its original rear axle but with a new crown and pinion fitted.  It carries a specially made     lightweight aluminium radiator, twin petrol tanks to distribute the weight better and new MSW wire wheels with Blockley tyres.

An aviation restorer, following the dimensions of the ERA Delage closely, made the exquisite aluminium body.  The quality across the whole build is exceptionally high.

The car comes with two exhausts which gives some flexibility to noise regulations – also the loud one will make you deaf (but probably with a smile on your face!)

VSCC regulations have been adhered to throughout and the car come with its VSCC eligibility certificate so it can go racing straight away or be enjoyed for fast touring.
