Lamborghini is not a name usually associated with motorcycles however during the 1980s they did flirt with the idea of going into this market.  By the late 1970s Lamborghini were on the verge of bankruptcy and after some stabilizing the company was sold to the Mimran Brother in 1981.  In an effort to turn the company around the brothers invested heavily in the company and greatly increased the number of products it produced to include the Countach, Jalpa and LM002 to racing power-boat engines.   Patrick Mimran also thought that Lamborghini should manufacture motorcycles.

Lamborghini teamed up with the boutique French motorcycle builder Boxer (now Boxer Design) who were instructed to both design and build the bike which they called the Design 90.  The bike featured a handmade alloy frame, machined alloy parts, a lightweight aluminum fuel tank, Brembo brakes and adjustable oil-and-air-rear suspension.  As a power unit Boxer chose a 1000cc in-line 4-cylinder engine with 4 valves per cylinder making 130bhp.  All cutting edge stuff in the mid 80s!!

An intended ultra limited run of 25 bike were planned however the Design 90 was launched in 1987 to little fanfare which combined with the hefty price tag of $13,500 meant that sales were not forthcoming and only 6 bikes were built.  This has now put them in the ultra rare category and with one of the most exciting names in the automotive world attached to it this is an exciting opportunity for any Lamborghini collector.

This 1987 Lamborghini Design 90 is the 2nd of the 6 made (#BOXERL002).  It has had only 1 owner from new and covered just 7,200Km.  We have been advised that the bike has not been used for the past 10 years so some recommissioning will be required.
