In 1957 Jaguar lunched the final incarnation of their legendary XK sports car series – the XK150.  Following on from the XK120 and XK140 models the car retained many of the same features that had proven so popular with its predecessors such as the 3.4 litre, twin overhead cam, 6 cylinder engine and the 4 speed moss gearbox.  The more significant changes to this final model were to the body, which benefitted from having the interior widened to increase space, especially for taller drivers and a more modern looking curved windscreen.  Disc brakes were also fitted for the first time so that the stopping power now matched the prodigious power of the engine and they no longer suffered brake fade after prolonged periods of spirited driving. 

The XK150 we offer here is chassis number S827241DN, a drophead coupe, built in 1958, in Cotswold Blue and first owned by the Essex born racing driver Alan Rippon.  Alan raced a number of different cars through the 1950s including Le Mans in 1951 when he piloted the experimental MG that would go on to become the MGA.

In 1952 he formed Ecurie Britanique with John Coombs driving Cooper Mk VIs with Norton engines and then later XKs as well as numerous Formula 500s but particularly Kiefts, which he also ran at Le Mans in 1954 and 1955.

From the Buff Logbook it would appear that Alan kept this XK150 for some 8 years, selling it in 1966 to John Christie of Billericay, Essex who then owned it for 6 years before selling it to Charles Bickley of lower Burnham, Essex.  The car is in excellent condition throughout and even won the Jaguars owners Concours in 2013 and drives as well as it looks, aided by the addition of an effortlessly useable Getrag 5 speed gearbox and the original moss-box comes with the car.  It has a nice history file and is available for immediate inspection.
