Since AC launched their coupe, the Aceca, at the 1954 Earls Court Motor Show in London, they have been admired for their light weight, excellent handling and beautiful lines.  The model had a number of engines available through its production starting with AC’s own 2 litre, 6 cylinder alloy engine and a little later the car was late available with the comparable Bristol 2 litre engine.  Finally in 1961, following the closure of the Bristol engine production, the most powerful variant could be chosen using the 2.6 litre, 6 cylinder, Ford Zephyr power plant.  As the AC and Bristol engines came to an end AC turned to Ken Rudd, a long time AC garage owner, racer and engine tuner who offered the Ford engine in various states of tune from 120bhp to 170bhp.  In total 37 ACE and 8 Aceca (4 RHD / 4 LHD) were built using these powerful engines before AC collaborated with Carroll Shelby and the company when down a different route altogether.

The Aceca that we offer here is a very special car indeed.  Author Ian Fleming bought RS5506 new in 1962 with the stage II Ruddspeed conversion featuring triple 1½ inch SU carburetors on a Barwell inlet manifold.  This stage of tune also featured larger inlet and exhaust valves and lighter pistons.  The car came with a Moss 4 speed gearbox with overdrive, disc/drum brakes, twin electric fans, heater and a radio.  The car remains in its original colour scheme of blue with a red interior that like the rest of the car has been beautifully restored.  The car also comes with a wonderful and large history file with its original buff logbook showing that it is a matching numbers vehicle. 

The car underwent a large amount of work between 2009 and 2012 when it was gone through from front to back at a cost in the region of £90,000.  The majority of the work done was by renowned engineering company Jim Stokes although Redline Engineering, Driveline Motorsport, Competition Engine Services and others also worked on the car.  The work is too extensive to list fully but major work included an engine rebuild and set up, brakes, suspension, rear axel, re trim the interior including new carpets and seat re-stuffed, gearbox, wiring, ancillaries, etc, etc.   The car was done to the highest standards and it now drives exceptionally with lots of torque, light handling and good brakes.  It really is one of the best examples of any car we have seen in a long time.

By any standard this car is exceptional and given its rarity, provenance and condition this is surely not an opportunity to be missed.
